Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has directed Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGAs) to immediately take charge of all 20 local government areas of the State.
This directive follows the expiration of the statutory three-year tenure of the elected local government chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors on Friday, July 25, 2024.
Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, announced this during a meeting with the HOLGAs in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. He stated that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration remains committed to grassroots development through the ongoing provision of infrastructure and the execution of projects that impact the well-being and welfare of the people.
Talabi promised that the state government would continue to support the local governments in reinvigorating the grassroots economy. He urged the HOLGAs to use their administrative skills in running the affairs of the council areas effectively.
Responding on behalf of the HOLGAs, Director of Management Services at the Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Babatunde Owolabi, appreciated Governor Abiodun for the confidence placed in the HOLGAs. He noted that the responsibilities ahead would require synergy to achieve the government’s policies and programmes at the LGAs, pledging their determination to meet expectations.
Others present at the meeting included the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hazmat; Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission, Engr. Olanike Oguntona; and her counterpart in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Olurotimi Akinlesi, among others.
