Breaking: Customs Deputy Comptroller Slumps, Dies During Reps Probe

Essien Etop Andrew, Deputy Comptroller of the Nigerian Customs Service in charge of Revenue, has passed away at the National Assembly Clinic in Abuja.

 

Andrew collapsed while being questioned by the House of Representatives’ Public Accounts Committee. The committee is currently conducting a probe into revenue-generating agencies and government parastatals.

 

Despite immediate medical attention at the National Assembly Clinic, he did not survive.

 

A statement from House spokesman Akin Rotimi confirmed the incident, stating: “It is with deep sadness and regret that we confirm the passing of an esteemed official of the Nigeria Customs Service who was at the National Assembly for an engagement with a House Committee.”

 

The statement continued, “During the engagement, which occurred around 1.00 pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the official developed sudden health complications.

 

Despite the immediate and diligent efforts of first responders and medical personnel at the National Assembly Clinic, he unfortunately passed away.”

 

The House of Representatives extended condolences to Andrew’s family, friends, and colleagues, acknowledging his significant contributions to the Nigeria Customs Service and the nation.
