This noteworthy event, dubbed “Engagement with Ogun Journalists,” aims to review and discuss the legislative activities and impacts of these elected officials over the past year.
Scheduled for June 24 to June 29, 2024, at the Iwe-Irohin Press Center in Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, the event will offer a platform for the nine House of Representatives members and three Senators from Ogun State to present their achievements and discuss their experiences in office.
The engagement aligns with the NUJ’s mission to uphold accountability, transparency, and the principles of democracy by providing a forum for open communication between journalists and lawmakers.
In a letter dated June 13, 2024, and signed by the Council Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, under the directive of the Council Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, the NUJ formally invited all concerned legislators to participate in this pivotal event.
The correspondence emphasized the importance of this engagement in marking the legislators’ one-year milestone and offered congratulations on their contributions to their respective constituencies and the national legislative process.
“To mark this one year in office, the state council of the Union is organizing a program for all the Nine House of Reps members and the three Senators from Ogun State, dubbed ‘Engagement with Ogun Journalists’ where they will be able to speak to over five hundred journalists in Ogun about what they have done in the last year of representation,” the letter stated.
The NUJ has urged all invited lawmakers to attend, underscoring the event as an opportunity to showcase their projects and developmental initiatives.
The council has already sent out formal invitations and encourages any members with personal connections to the legislators to follow up and remind them of the event.
This engagement session is not only a celebration of the lawmakers’ first year in office but also an essential exercise in democratic transparency.
