Former Director General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and former National Vice Chairman, North West, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has expressed concerns that the party can no longer secure electoral victories without manipulation.

In a statement on Wednesday, Lukman emphasized the necessity of addressing party leaders to clarify his stance on the current state of the APC and the nation.

“It is a widely shared concern among party leaders that the country’s situation has worsened over the past year since President Bola Tinubu took office.

“Considering that the party’s structures have been weakened and the government is implementing policies that have diminished citizens’ incomes, living conditions are deteriorating rapidly. As a result, both the APC and the governments it oversees are becoming increasingly unpopular.

“At this rate, winning elections without rigging seems impossible. The common sentiment is that President Tinubu might only serve one term. The harsh reality is that the country might not make it to 2027 without significant upheavals,” he stated.

Lukman further asserted that based on Nigerians’ experiences with former President Muhammadu Buhari and current President Tinubu, it is crucial to prioritize developing a strong party organization that can hold the President and elected officials accountable.

“Given these circumstances, remaining in the APC seems futile unless President Tinubu permits internal reforms to restore the party’s founding vision. However, my current reality within the party is that my membership has been rendered ineffective, and there is no reason to impose myself further.

Expressing a hope that President Tinubu will regain his democratic principles, Lukman noted that he has lost faith in the administration’s ability to achieve much after a year of unplanned leadership.
