Governor Abiodun Praises Police for Security Efforts in Ogun State

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has praised the Nigeria Police Force for its efforts in ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.

Abiodun gave this commendation on Tuesday when he received the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the South West region, Mr. Abiodun Alabi, who paid him a courtesy visit.

He noted that police personnel in the state have been diligent in their constitutional duties in collaboration with other security agencies.

Prince Abiodun said, “We have enjoyed the cooperation of the police. Their collaboration with other security agencies like the Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and our Amotekun has led to the peaceful atmosphere we enjoy, encouraging investors to come and do business in our state.”

The Governor also commended the joint efforts of the Ogun, Oyo, and Lagos state commands in combating criminal activities, particularly on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which has reduced crime in that area.

He praised DIG Alabi for touring the region to check on his men and their relationship with the public. He also appreciated the Inspector General of Police for his support and the Commissioner of Police for their excellent work in the State.

DIG Alabi, speaking earlier, emphasized the need for engagement with stakeholders to ensure effective community policing. He stated that his visit followed the IGP’s directive for the six DIGs to tour their regions, assess security situations, and develop strategies to address them.

He thanked Governor Abiodun for his ongoing support and pledged that his men would continue to enhance security in the State.

Answering questions from journalists after meeting the governor, DIG Alabi acknowledged the presence of kidnapping, cultism, and other crimes but noted that the Southwest is relatively peaceful compared to other regions.

“No society is crime-free. Crime is a dynamic phenomenon. Today, it can be reduced to almost zero, but tomorrow it may rise again. It is up to us to re-strategize and implement effective policing plans to address it decisively,” he said.

He assured that his team is aware of crime hotspots and will work to improve security throughout the Southwest.

DIG Alabi affirmed that Ogun State, despite being an industrial hub, remains one of the most peaceful states, and he assured residents that additional security measures would be implemented to maintain this peace.
