Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, stated that issues causing frequent National Grid collapses are being addressed.
On Friday, at the Ministerial Sectorial Update organized by the Federal Government to allow ministers to present their achievements to the Nigerian public, the Minister discussed recent improvements.
“You can see that for the past two months, the power grid has not collapsed because we’re actively managing it and doing our best to minimize these incidents,” he said.
“But the permanent solution to grid collapse is to have automated control of the grid’s frequency and voltage. This is done through an application called Security Control and Data Acquisition, SCADA.
“We’ve been attempting this for the last 10 to 12 years. However, just last week, the World Bank intervened.
“They gave us 24 months to complete the implementation of SCADA, and I believe with the World Bank’s involvement, we’ll achieve this.
“We are currently using a locally developed Internet of Things system, which allows us to monitor some generation and transmission locations. With SCADA, 100 percent of these locations will be networked,” he said.
