Man Killed Following Argument with Cousin in Ogun

Michael Adeneye was reportedly killed by a member of a local security group known as Agbekoya after a dispute with his cousin, Odunayo Adeneye, in the Ajebo area of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Tuesday.

A senior police source told PUNCH Metro on Wednesday that Michael allegedly attacked Odunayo with a machete during the argument, but was intercepted by Olowo Sule, who was injured by Michael in the process.

Following the injury, the incident was reported to Agbekoya, who attempted to arrest Michael.

Our correspondent learned from the source that during the arrest attempt, Michael resisted, leading to one of the Agbekoya personnel shooting him in the chest.

The source said, “The deceased tried to attack Odunayo with a machete, but Olowo Sule intervened to protect her. During the struggle, the deceased injured Olowo Sule’s hand with the machete.

“Odunayo then called on the Agbekoya local security outfit at Ipara, who tried to apprehend the deceased, but he became aggressive.

“In the process of trying to arrest him, Osho Adeyemi (an Agbekoya operative) shot the deceased in the chest, causing his instant death.”

Confirming the incident to our correspondent over the phone on Wednesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, revealed that three suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.

She added that the suspects were under investigation and stated that the body of the deceased had been taken to the FOS morgue in Ipara for an autopsy.

“The man who reportedly shot Michael claimed to be an Agbekoya operative. Police operatives have visited the scene and arrested three suspects: Osho Adeyemi, Akala Semiu, and Odunayo Adeneye.

“The deceased’s body was taken to the FOS Mortuary in Ipara, Ogun State, for an autopsy. The suspects are being investigated. The public will receive further updates soon,” Odutola stated.
