Cole Palmer has been declared the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season after an extraordinary year at Chelsea.

The 22-year-old has tallied 22 goals and ten assists in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, marking himself as one of Europe’s top young talents.

Palmer’s stunning performances, including a four-goal game against Everton and a hat-trick against Manchester United, have lifted Chelsea from mid-table to competing for a top-six finish – a final day win against Bournemouth will secure this turnaround for Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

Beginning the season at Manchester City, Palmer chose to join Chelsea for more regular first-team football, and his decision has proven wise. He has played in 32 of Chelsea’s 34 Premier League matches – after only ten minutes in City’s first three games – and is now a strong candidate for England’s Euro 2024 squad this summer.

Palmer has played as a right winger, number 10, and centre forward, showing great versatility in Chelsea’s transitional season. The Blues had a slow start under Pochettino, with off-field tensions between the manager and supporters.

Pochettino now seems to have the support of most fans and definitely has Palmer’s backing, who recently said of Chelsea’s progress: “All credit to the manager. All the players love the manager and want to fight for him.”

Palmer beat last year’s winner Erling Haaland, his Manchester City teammate Phil Foden, Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Arsenal’s William Saliba and Bukayo Saka, and Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie to win the award.
