The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has stated that many of the projects initiated and unveiled by his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, remain unpaid for.
Fubara lamented that the state owes numerous contractors, noting that those unpaid by the previous administration are now seeking payment from his government.
The governor made these remarks during the inauguration of Ebubu-Aleto-Eteo in Eleme Local Government Area of the State. The project was unveiled by the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti.
Fubara emphasized that transparency remains paramount in his administration, highlighting the availability of a white paper detailing the costs of all projects undertaken.
He mentioned that the main challenge his administration faces is the debts accrued by the previous administration, acknowledging his own involvement in that government but expressing frustration at the current situation.
Fubara explained, “For the record, it was awarded to CCECC on August 14th by this Administration. As we progress, we will present a white paper detailing records and costs. The project was awarded at a cost of N6.7 billion. I can confidently say we have fully compensated the contractor.”
He continued, “The primary issue this administration faces is debt. Many of the projects being inaugurated require additional payments running into millions and billions. I have refrained from speaking out, but if pushed, I will address it so that the truth will be revealed.”
