The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man named Abiola, also known as Aro, for allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old girl at a mosque in Ogun State.
The incident reportedly occurred at the Olorunloba Mosque restroom on Ondo Road in the Ijebu-Ode area. Aro, a member of the mosque for over 15 years, was accused of assaulting the teenager after the afternoon prayer on Saturday, March 4, 2024, around 2:20 pm.
The victim informed officers at the Igbeba Division that she went to the mosque’s bathroom to relieve herself. She said she heard a knock on the door and assumed it was her younger brother, who also attended the prayer.
However, when she opened the door, she found Aro standing outside, which startled her. He allegedly pushed her back into the restroom, forcing her against the wall.
A police source, who preferred anonymity, explained that despite the victim’s cries, Aro forcefully removed her underwear and assaulted her. According to a police report, she began to bleed heavily after the attack and reported the incident to her guardian, who took her to a local hospital for treatment.
The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, stating that he is in custody while the investigation continues. “The suspect has been arrested and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further investigation,” Odutola said via a WhatsApp message on Sunday.
