Ogun’s Hon. Adijat Adeleye: Financial Inclusion Key to Women’s Empowerment

Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, participated in the National Savings Group Conference 2024 in Abuja, focusing on “Accelerating Financial and Economic Inclusion: The Pivotal Role of Savings Groups in Nigeria.” During the panel discussion, Adeleye highlighted the remarkable achievements of the Nigeria For Women Project (NFWP) and Women Affinity Groups (WAG) in Ogun State.

Adeleye commended the NFWP’s management team and explained how the Women Affinity Groups have empowered women, providing financial independence and a platform to address societal issues, including standing against crimes like rape.

These groups, led and run by women with shared interests, have been pivotal in fostering social and economic projects for mutual benefit.

Furthermore, Adeleye noted the success of initiatives like the Oko’owo Dapo Scheme, which supports the creation and sustainability of savings groups, especially for women and vulnerable populations.

These efforts underline the commitment to advancing women’s rights, gender equality, and economic empowerment.

Looking forward, Adeleye emphasized the commitment to strengthening these operations to enhance women’s financial inclusion and their role in societal development.
