Controversial cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, has filed a notice of appeal, challenging his recent conviction on four counts of currency abuse.
The appeal, filed by his attorney Bimbo Kusanu, seeks to overturn the six-month prison sentence imposed by the Federal High Court in Lagos, proposing instead a fine of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000) for each count.
On April 12, 2024, Justice Abimbola Awogboro sentenced Bobrisky to six months in prison without the option of a fine for abusing the Nigerian currency. The judge noted that the decision was intended to deter others from engaging in similar acts of currency abuse and mutilation.
Bobrisky had previously pleaded guilty to the four charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on April 5, 2024.
