The Nigeria Immigration Service has taken action against Yahya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, by placing him on a watch list.
This decision comes in response to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declaring Bello wanted.
The EFCC’s attempt to arrest Bello was thwarted by his successor, Governor Usman Ododo. In a letter sent to various security agencies, including the Department of State Services, the Inspector General of Police, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, among others, Bello is to be apprehended at any exit or entry point.
The letter, signed by Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, Suspect Index, DS Usman, and dated April 18, 2024, specifies that Bello is currently under prosecution before the Federal High Court in Abuja for charges related to conspiracy, breach of trust, and money laundering.
The allegations against Bello involve money laundering activities amounting to over 82 billion naira.
