American singer and global superstar Taylor Swift has achieved billionaire status, as reported by Forbes magazine.
The 34-year-old pop musician has amassed a fortune of 1.1 billion US dollars (£875 million), primarily from her Eras Tour and the value of her pop music catalog.
“Forbes noted that Swift is the first musician to reach a 10-figure net worth solely through her songs and performances.”
Taylor Swift’s recent tour has brought in over a billion dollars in revenue.
Barbadian singer Rihanna made the list thanks to her beauty brand, while Beyoncé’s husband, rapper Jay-Z, became hip-hop’s first billionaire in 2019 due to his fine art collection, music, and investments in companies and beverage brands.
Forbes estimates Swift’s wealth to be approximately 500 million dollars (£398 million) from royalties and touring, another 500 million dollars from the value of her musical works, and an additional 125 million dollars (£99 million) from her property investments.
She joins French luxury brand LVMH owner Bernard Arnault, who holds the title of the world’s wealthiest person with about 233 billion dollars (£185 billion).
Technology mogul Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, came in second on the Forbes list with an estimated 195 billion dollars (£155 billion).
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ranked third, with Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg at number four and Oracle software co-founder Larry Ellison rounding out the top five.
Following Swift’s recent music gigs, which began in March 2023, she became the first artist to exceed one billion dollars (£800 million) in revenue, setting a Guinness World Record for the highest-grossing music tour.
The concert film based on her tour also achieved Vue International’s highest ticket sales at the UK and Ireland box office on its opening day.
She also claimed the title of the biggest-selling global recording artist of 2023, breaking another record by topping the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI) global artist chart for the fourth time.
Her albums, 2022’s “Midnights” and the 2023 re-releases of “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” have all reached the top of the UK charts.
Swift has been reclaiming control of her master recordings by re-recording her back catalog since 2021 with “Fearless (Taylor’s Version).
