A man identified as Sunday Ogah tragically drowned in a river in Eyinwa community in Odogbolu local government area of Ogun State.
This information was provided by the spokesperson for Ogun State command of Nigeria Police, SP Omolola Odutola, in a statement released to the press in Abeokuta, the state capital.
According to Odutola, Otusanya Abayomi of Igbe Ilara reported at the community police station that around 12 noon, he entered the community with his companion, mentioning that his deceased companion left him and others for an undisclosed location without informing anyone.
Abayomi mentioned that later information reached him that the aforementioned Sunday had gone swimming at Eyinwa river and tragically drowned.
“Upon receiving the information, the DPO Odogbolu deployed surveillance police officers in collaboration with local divers to locate the body, but unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful.”
Efforts are still ongoing to recover the body and to inform the family of this tragic incident,” the statement reads.
The State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, while expressing his deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time, assured that the command remains dedicated to promoting public safety and preventing such tragedies in the future.
He further cautioned restless young individuals to avoid rivers whose depths they cannot anticipate.
