PDP Demands Akpabio’s Resignation Amid Alleged Budget Padding Scandal

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is calling for an independent investigation into the alleged insertion of N3.7 trillion into the 2024 budget for non-existent projects. Additionally, they demand the immediate resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio to ensure a fair investigation.

The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, addressed the media in Abuja, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the budgetary process.

The party insists that Sen. Akpabio should also report to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of misappropriating funds during his tenure as Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.

Furthermore, the PDP condemns the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi by the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in the Senate, viewing it as an attempt to stifle investigations into the budget padding allegations he raised.

The party questions the reluctance of the APC Senate leadership to initiate an open investigation into the matter and accuses them of attempting to conceal financial misconduct.

The PDP urges Sen. Akpabio to step aside to allow for an independent probe into the budget padding allegations, emphasizing the need to uphold the integrity of the Senate and restore public trust.

In light of these developments, Nigerians demand transparency and accountability from their leaders, especially in matters concerning public funds and governance.
