Dangote Renames Lagos Refinery Road After Late Access Holdings CEO, Wigwe

Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has renamed the road leading to the Dangote Oil Refinery in Lagos State after the late former Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, Dr. Herbert Wigwe.

During a speech at the funeral rites for Wigwe, Dangote announced the renaming of the road as a tribute to the late business leader, stating, “The biggest road is now named Herbert Wigwe.”

Wigwe tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in the United States alongside his wife and son. His funeral is scheduled for March 9, 2024, with a combined service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Lion of Judah Parish, Isiokpo.

The Dangote Refinery, hailed as the largest single-train refinery globally, commenced operations in January, marking a significant milestone for Nigeria’s energy sector. Despite delays, the refinery received its first crude deliveries late last year, with plans to help reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel.

Expected to process 650,000 barrels per day, the Dangote Refinery holds the potential to revolutionize Nigeria’s economy by ending its dependence on fuel imports. Initial operations will focus on diesel and aviation fuel production before expanding to petrol output.

This renaming ceremony underscores Dangote’s commitment to honoring the legacy of Herbert Wigwe, a respected figure in Nigeria’s business community.
