Group Accuses Governor Aiyedatiwa of Rewarding Anti-APC Members with Appointments

The Akoko Progressive Movement (APM), a faction within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has leveled allegations against Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for purportedly granting appointments to individuals who opposed the party during the 2023 primary elections.

In a statement released by Seye Johnson, the group’s Director of Media, it claimed that two recent cabinet appointments made by the governor were conferred upon individuals who did not support President Bola Tinubu’s aspirations during the 2023 polls.

The appointments, according to the group, have stirred concern among party members in the state, with many feeling marginalized despite their contributions to the APC at both state and national levels.

Moreover, the APM expressed dismay over the appointment of someone who openly campaigned against Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during the Akoko North-West/Akoko North-East House of Representatives election in 2023.

The group emphasized that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s appointments appear to validate concerns that he aims to undermine the APC in Ondo State.

Highlighting the alleged anti-Bunmi Tunji-Ojo sentiments of one appointee, the APM warned of potential backlash if such sentiments persist, asserting Tunji-Ojo’s significant role within the party and the community.

Urging the APC’s national leadership to intervene, the group appealed for Governor Aiyedatiwa to be reined in to prevent political instability within the party and the state.
