The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has launched the Free Surgical Intervention Programme, providing vital surgeries for those in need at State Hospitals in Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, and Ilaro.
Commencing with beneficiary registration, the program offers both major and minor surgical procedures as part of the governor’s healthcare support to the populace.
Dr. Rotimi Ogungbe, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Health, described the initiative as unprecedented, aiming to alleviate medical challenges requiring surgical intervention.
Services encompass preoperative, operative, and post-operative care, covering a wide range of surgeries including orthopedic, gynecological, obstetrics, among others.
Dr. Bashirudeen Oni, Coordinator for the Yewa Zone program, outlined surgeries for conditions such as breast lumps, hernias, fibroids, and more, with plans to expand as the program advances.
The Chief Medical Director, Dr. Yusuf Abdulwahab, commended the turnout, with surgeries already underway for cleared patients.
Beneficiaries like Mrs. Saidat Dopemu and Miss Ogunsiji Waidat expressed gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging the financial relief provided by the program.
Mr. Adisa Oladejo, whose son is undergoing hernia surgery, praised the governor’s timely intervention, urging others in need to take advantage.
At the State Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon Dr. Kayode Oladeinde reported successful surgeries for six patients, thanking Governor Abiodun for his commitment to healthcare.
Similarly, at the State Hospital in Ijebu Ode, Dr. Tayo Lawal, the Governor’s Health Adviser, announced that all registered beneficiaries would receive fully paid Ogun State Health Insurance Agency cards, courtesy of Governor Abiodun.
Beneficiaries like Mrs. Adebanjo Adebukola and Mr. Fadipe Solomon expressed gratitude for the opportunity, urging others to participate in the program.
